John Kind Studios works with independent professionals across business development, operations, production, post-production, creative services, talent, performance, and education.
JKS operates through three connected parts:
Company Operating Bench — professionals who help develop business, close opportunities, activate projects, manage delivery, maintain client relationships, staff projects, and administer company operations.
Production Network — production and technical professionals responsible for executing funded client work.
Creative Network — talent and creative specialists brought into projects according to the specific creative requirements of the assignment.
Most opportunities are project-based independent contractor roles. Joining JKS does not guarantee weekly hours, minimum income, assignments, or exclusivity.

HOW JKS WORKS
John Kind Studios is structured around funded client projects rather than maintaining a large permanent payroll before work exists.
When a project is confirmed, JKS activates the people required to execute it.
Selected professionals receive a Project Snapshot or applicable booking document before accepting an assignment. It identifies the role, authority, scope, compensation, schedule, timeline, responsibilities, deliverables, and other applicable project terms.
Having multiple skills is welcome, but JKS does not automatically combine several jobs into one assignment. When someone performs multiple approved roles, each responsibility must be clearly scoped and compensated.
Some positions are remote-capable. Current local production recruitment is primarily focused on Greater Boston and Eastern Massachusetts, with travel or other markets considered according to project needs.

These roles help JKS operate beyond individual creative assignments.
Business Development Associate — Creative Production & Media
Develop new business opportunities for JKS through research, prospecting, personalized outreach, follow-up, relationship development, and qualification.
This is an active outbound business-development position. It is not a passive referral role, creative-production position, or general networking membership.
Business Development Associates identify organizations with a legitimate potential need for JKS services and develop qualified opportunities for handoff.
Compensation: 12% commission on collected JKS service revenue from attributed opportunities.
Work arrangement: Remote / project and performance based.
Partnership Lead / Authorized Closer
Take qualified opportunities from interest to decision.
Partnership Leads conduct discovery conversations, present approved JKS solutions, discuss scope and pricing, address prospect questions, and move qualified opportunities toward agreement and payment.
This role does not primarily exist to cold prospect. It receives developed opportunities from Business Development Associates, referrals, inbound inquiries, direct outreach, and other approved sources.
Work arrangement: Remote / project activated.
Operations Lead / Executive Producer
Own the operational picture once client work becomes funded.
Responsibilities may include project activation, production readiness, staffing oversight, capacity, risk identification, cross-project coordination, escalation, and keeping active engagements moving without routine founder intervention.
This role is designed for an experienced producer or operations professional capable of overseeing multiple moving projects.
Work arrangement: Remote with project-specific local requirements when necessary.
Project Creative Director / Program Lead
Translate client objectives into clear creative direction for assigned projects.
Depending on the engagement, responsibilities may include story direction, campaign concepts, messaging, visual direction, creative briefs, curriculum concepts, program leadership, and creative-quality supervision.
Creative Director authority applies to the specific assigned project, not automatically to JKS as a whole.
Work arrangement: Primarily remote with project-specific production participation when necessary.
Project Manager / Producer
Own confirmed projects from activation through closeout.
Project Managers control timelines, task ownership, client communication, approvals, internal follow-up, deliverable tracking, and project closeout.
Compensation structure: 10% of collected JKS service revenue on managed projects.
Work arrangement: Primarily remote with production participation when required.
Client Success / Account Lead
Maintain continuity across larger, recurring, and strategic JKS client relationships.
Responsibilities may include gathering approvals, documenting decisions, maintaining communication, tracking relationship needs, and identifying legitimate opportunities for additional JKS support.
This role does not independently expand scope or promise unsold services.
Work arrangement: Remote / activated according to client account needs.
Network & Talent Coordinator
Staff funded JKS projects from the Production and Creative Networks.
Responsibilities include reviewing project staffing requirements, identifying qualified network members, evaluating role fit and availability, confirming participation, coordinating replacements, maintaining roster information, and documenting staffing decisions.
The Coordinator is expected to learn the JKS roster and own routine staffing activity rather than requiring the founder to personally select every contractor.
Work arrangement: Remote.
Finance & Administration Coordinator
Maintain the administrative and financial records connected to JKS projects.
Responsibilities may include agreements, invoices, receivables, contractor payment documentation, project records, payment tracking, and project closeout administration.
This role maintains records and prepares transactions within approved controls. It does not receive unrestricted payment or financial authority.
Work arrangement: Remote.
JKS PRODUCTION NETWORK
The Production Network is JKS's project-activated bench for production, technical execution, post-production, content, and education.
Social Media Manager
Manage approved client social platforms, including calendars, publishing workflows, approvals, platform management, community workflows, and reporting.
Original photography, video capture, graphic design, paid media, and unrelated content production are separate scopes unless specifically assigned.
Remote capable.
Content Creator
Create platform-native photo, video, and/or audio content from an approved concept, brief, or shot list.
Account management and social strategy are not automatically included.
Local, remote, or travel-based depending on assignment.
Freelance Graphic Designer
Create graphic assets, layouts, campaign materials, templates, promotional designs, and platform adaptations.
Motion graphics, illustration, animation, social management, and website development are separately assigned disciplines.
Remote.
Current planning basis: approximately $200–$400 per standard asset or approved project fee.
Freelance Videographer
Capture professional moving-image content according to an approved production and technical plan.
Videographers may work on interviews, branded content, events, documentaries, testimonials, promotional productions, educational media, studio projects, and other client work.
Editing, producing, creative direction, lighting leadership, photography, drone operation, and sound are separate scopes unless specifically assigned.
Eastern Massachusetts / project locations.
Current assignment structure: generally fixed production-block, half-day, day, or project fees.
Camera Operator
Operate an assigned camera position while maintaining framing, focus, exposure, camera settings, and captured media.
Camera Operators are not automatically designated Lead Videographers, producers, or creative directors.

Current planning range: approximately $50–$150/hour or approved call/day fee.
Freelance Photographer
Capture professional portrait, branding, product, event, documentary, or other approved photography.
Advanced retouching is handled separately unless explicitly included in the assignment.
Eastern Massachusetts / project locations.
Starting reference rate: $30/hour, with many assignments using fixed session or project fees.
Freelance Video Editor
Assemble footage, audio, graphics, and project assets into approved video deliverables.
Advanced motion graphics, animation, complex sound mixing, and original graphic design are not automatically included.
Remote.
Starting reference rate: $75/hour or approved fixed editing fee.
Freelance Photo Editor / Retoucher
Cull, color-correct, retouch, and export professional image sets according to the approved visual direction.
Photography, graphic design, illustration, and advanced compositing are separately scoped.
Remote.
Starting reference rate: $64/hour or fixed image-set/project fee.
Motion Graphics Designer
Create titles, motion graphics, explainers, animated production assets, and other approved motion-design deliverables.
Full video editing, illustration systems, and advanced character animation are separately scoped.
Remote capable.
Livestream Technician
Build, test, operate, and monitor approved livestream, webcast, or hybrid-event workflows.
Assignments may include switching, signal monitoring, recording, platform operation, and redundancy according to the approved technical plan.
Local/event based.
Current planning range: approximately $50–$125/hour or fixed event fee.
FAA-Certified Drone Operator
Capture approved aerial imagery safely and legally according to project, airspace, weather, and regulatory requirements.
Commercial drone applicants must maintain applicable FAA Part 107 credentials.
Local/project based.
Current planning range: approximately $75–$200/hour or fixed flight-block/project fee.
Sound Mixer / Boom Operator
Record professional location dialogue and production sound using the approved equipment package.
Post-production mixing, music production, and general AV operation are separate responsibilities.
Eastern Massachusetts / project locations.
Freelance Recording / Audio Engineer
Engineer studio, podcast, voice, music, and other approved recording sessions.
Responsibilities may include setup, recording, monitoring, session organization, and approved technical delivery.
Location production sound, live-event AV, mixing/mastering, and unrelated post work are not automatically included.
Greater Boston / approved studios and project locations.
Starting reference rate: $30/hour, with many assignments using session or project fees.
AV Technician
Install, operate, monitor, and strike assigned live audio, video, projection, presentation, and related AV systems.
Local/event based.
Compensation: fixed event/call fee according to assignment.
Gaffer / Lighting Technician
Execute approved production lighting plans safely and efficiently.
Personal kits, expendables, overtime, and specialty equipment are separately established when applicable.
Local/project based.
Grip
Support rigging, stands, modifiers, equipment movement, and set safety according to the approved production plan.
Local/project based.
Current planning range: approximately $30–$60/hour or fixed call/day fee.
Production Coordinator
Coordinate production logistics including call sheets, releases, crew details, schedules, vendors, travel, and production-office needs.
This is different from the Project Manager role and is activated when dedicated production coordination is required.
Local, travel-based, or partially remote depending on project.
Current planning range: approximately $30–$55/hour or fixed project/day fee.
Production Assistant
Provide assigned production support including load-in, staging, runner responsibilities, releases, hospitality, equipment movement, and general set assistance.
Production Assistants are not assigned unsupervised technical or management responsibility outside their qualifications.
Local/project based.
Current planning range: approximately $25–$40/hour or fixed call/day fee.
Freelance AV / Media Instructor
Deliver approved JKS audiovisual and media curriculum through workshops, classes, demonstrations, exercises, and educational programs.
Possible teaching areas include audio production, video production, photography, podcasting, audiovisual technology, media production, and related creative disciplines.
Curriculum development and program strategy are separately assigned when required.
Eastern Massachusetts / client and program locations.
Standard instructor rate: $75/hour. Larger or specialized programs may use fixed program fees.
JKS CREATIVE NETWORK
The Creative Network includes performers, creative talent, writers, visual artists, and styling professionals activated according to project requirements.

Current planning range: $40–$150/hour or an approved session, call, day, or booking fee. Usage, exclusivity, travel, reshoots, expanded distribution, and other applicable rights are handled separately.
In-person talent opportunities are primarily Eastern Massachusetts. Remote voice talent may be considered when recording quality meets project requirements.

Each discipline is separately scoped. A dancer is not automatically a choreographer; a musician is not automatically a composer; a DJ is not automatically responsible for event production.
Current planning range: $50–$200/hour or an approved performance, session, rehearsal, event, composition, choreography, or project fee.
Usage, publishing, masters, licensing, equipment, rehearsal, travel, and expanded rights are separately addressed when applicable.
Illustrator
Create original illustrations, visual concepts, campaign artwork, publication assets, merchandise artwork, and production-ready illustrated deliverables.
Graphic design and animation are separate disciplines unless specifically assigned.
Remote capable.
Current planning range: $35–$90/hour or fixed asset/project fee.
Animator
Create approved 2D, character, illustrative, or other animation according to established storyboards, timing, technical requirements, and creative direction.
Standard motion graphics, full video editing, illustration ownership, 3D, and VFX are separately scoped when applicable.

Freelance Writer — Copy & Script
Develop approved scripts, interview frameworks, campaign copy, website copy, captions, educational content, branded storytelling, promotional writing, and other original written material.
Applicants may specialize as Copywriters, Scriptwriters, or both.
Creative direction, PR representation, grant consulting, legal writing, campaign management, and social-media management are not automatically included.

Relevant work, experience, communication, presentation, and role fit are evaluated.
3. Selected candidates are invited to an interview, audition, or portfolio review
An interview is part of the evaluation process. It is not an offer of network membership.
4. JKS makes the selection decision
Applicants who are selected will be contacted directly.
5. Selected professionals complete onboarding
Contractor documentation and applicable JKS systems access occur after selection, not before.
6. Project activation happens separately
Joining an operating bench or network does not itself create paid work. When an appropriate funded assignment exists, JKS provides the applicable Project Snapshot or booking terms before the professional accepts it.

COMPENSATION
JKS uses a combination of commission, hourly reference rates, session fees, production-block fees, call rates, day rates, fixed deliverable fees, project fees, talent fees, and other assignment-specific compensation structures depending on the role.
The rates displayed on this page are planning or starting references, not a guarantee that every assignment is hourly.
Before accepting paid work, the selected professional receives the applicable compensation, scope, schedule, responsibilities, and deliverables in writing.
Personal equipment, rentals, travel, specialty materials, usage, licensing, exclusivity, overtime, additional revisions, additional rehearsals, and other project expenses are handled according to the specific assignment rather than silently absorbed into the base role.
MULTIPLE SKILLS
JKS welcomes multidisciplinary professionals.
Someone may qualify as both a Videographer and Photographer, Graphic Designer and Motion Graphics Designer, Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist, Actor and Voice Actor, or another legitimate combination.
However, being qualified for several roles does not mean JKS expects several jobs for one fee.
Each role actually required by a project must be identified, approved, and appropriately compensated.
EQUIPMENT
Equipment ownership is not automatically required for every JKS role.
Applicants should accurately identify equipment they personally own or reliably have access to when equipment is relevant to their work.
Some projects use JKS-approved rentals, client facilities, or third-party studios.
When a freelancer's personal equipment is required, the equipment responsibility and applicable compensation or reimbursement are established before the assignment is accepted.
PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS
JKS maintains a project-based network so the company can assemble the right team for each client engagement.
Being talented is only one part of remaining active.
Network members are expected to communicate professionally, respond to required messages by stated deadlines, keep their availability and qualifications accurate, protect confidential information, follow approved project direction, and complete accepted assignments reliably.
JKS may update its active roster as the company's needs, standards, markets, and services evolve.
